Assigning roles to custom properties

By default, all custom properties are visible and editable by all users. Roles can be assigned to custom properties to restrict read or write access to specific properties to specific users. The members of a role without access will not see the properties.

Before you begin

Preparing to configure security at the property level involves the following tasks:

• Define the custom properties as described in Creating, editing, and deleting custom properties.
• Define the user accounts and access groups that will be allowed access to the custom properties as described in Creating and editing users and Creating, editing, and deleting access groups.
• Define the roles that will be allowed access to the custom properties as described in Creating, editing, and deleting roles 

To assign a role to a custom property:

1. In the Settings view, expand the name of the workspace in which you want to assign the roles and click Custom properties. A page listing the existing custom properties appears.

2. On the Actions menu of the property that you want to edit, click Edit access. A page listing the existing roles assigned to custom properties appears.
3. Click Add. A page showing the custom property access options appears.
4. Click options or type values using the descriptions in the following table.

5. Click Save. The page listing the existing roles assigned to custom properties reappears with the new role assignment added.
6. Select the appropriate Read and Write options for the new role assignment and click Update Changes to save your changes.

To remove a role from a custom property:

1. In the Settings view, expand the name of the workspace in which you want to remove the role and click Custom properties. A page listing the existing custom properties appears.

2. On the Actions menu of the property that you want to edit, click Edit access. A page listing the existing roles assigned to custom properties appears.
3. Click Delete. A page listing the existing custom property role assignments appears.
4. Select the custom property for which you want to remove the corresponding role and click Delete. The page listing the existing custom property role assignments reappears with the selected role assignment removed.
